Perfection in Form, the new exhibition at the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence, Italy, pairs two masters in search of expressions of the beauty in human form.  Michelangelo, with his drawings and sculptures, and gay icon Robert Mapplethorpe,  with his formalist and classically-inspired photographs, make a natural pairing and to see the two side by side diverts the mind’s eye from the once controversial subject matter and focuses it on the approach to form and structure that both artists embodied.  For those lucky enough to be passing through Florence, the exhibit runs through January 10, 2010.
