Bruno Brunet, Metrobot, 2008
METROBOT represents the repression of graffiti artist by the subway and railway companies. This conflict is as old as graffiti itself. Better still, it has given graffiti the reputation of being an ‘act of rebellion’, with the authorities acting as a referee in the competition that exists between graffiti artists. Boldness, dexterity, merit and know-how are the values that animate graffiti subculture. In the exhibition’s manifesto, a Romanesque teaser, the artist describes the METROBOT: A robot whose mission is to search and destroy the graffiti artists.Bruno Brunet develops an aesthetic of the repression of graffiti and its role. So who benefits from this never-ending struggle?
